Softball travels to Geneva

Waynesburg plays two with Golden Tornadoes

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (March 16) – The Waynesburg University softball team traveled to Geneva on Tuesday for a doubleheader with the Golden Tornadoes. The host team swept the twin-bill by the final scores of 7-1 and 10-1.

Sophomore Brin Hunter (West Alexander, Pa. / McGuffey) went two-for-four with a run scored in the opener for Waynesburg (5-5). She was driven in by freshman Emma Bliss (Uniontown, Pa. / Laurel Highlands), who went one-for-two with a sacrifice fly RBI.

Freshman Ella Brookman (Washington, Pa. / Chartiers-Houston) suffered her first loss in the circle of the season after allowing four runs, all earned, on six hits and no walks. Senior Emma Kubalak (Spring Mills, Pa. / Penns Valley) logged the final three innings in in relief.

The Jackets didn't score in the late game until Hunter lined a sacrifice fly into left field that allowed senior Hannah Batovsky (Brownsville, Pa. / New Salem, Pa.) to break up the shutout in the top of the fifth. Batovsky was the biggest bright spot for the visiting team in the late contest. She went two-for-two with a run scored and a stolen base.

Freshman Kara May (Indian Head, Pa. / Connellsville) got the start in the circle and suffered the loss after allowing four runs, all earned, on three hits and two walks. Fellow freshman Shay Giesey (Barnesville, Ohio / Monroe Central) logged 2.1 innings of relief.

The Jackets will look to bounce back from its first sweep of the year on Saturday, March 20, when they host Saint Vincent for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
