Jacket women roll to victory in regular season finale

Waynesburg downs visiting Franciscan 75-53

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (March 9) – The 2020-21 season has had its share of hardships and struggles for the Waynesburg University women's basketball team. However, Tuesday's regular season finale against Franciscan gave the Yellow Jackets a chance to vent some frustration, as they rolled to a 75-53 win over the Barons.

Waynesburg (2-7, 2-7) never trailed on the evening and jumped out to a 10-2 lead following 3:25 of play in the first quarter. The Jackets built up advantages as large as 27 points (75-48) before the contest came to a close.

The statistics from Tuesday's contest reflected the final score. Perhaps the most impressive numbers came on the glass, where the Jackets out-rebounded Franciscan 64-32. Waynesburg's passing game was also on point, as 23 assists were dished out as the team tallied 32 successful field goals.

Junior Brooke Fuller (Allison Park, Pa. / Hampton) was a force on the interior for the Yellow Jackets. She piled up a team-season-high 19 rebounds, including nine offensive boards. She completed the double-double with a game-high 18 points.

Senior Andrea Orlosky (Shelocta, Pa. / West Shamokin) continued her fantastic final collegiate season with a 13-point, 15-rebound double-double. She also swiped a game-best four steals.
Freshman guard Marley Wolf (Ellwood City, Pa. / Riverside) efficiently posted 15 points on six-of-eight shooting. She knocked down three-of-four three-point attempts.

Junior forward Abigail Green (Forestville, Pa. / Portersville Christian School) tallied 11 points and six rebounds. Freshman guard Avery Robinson (Ravenna, Ohio / Ravenna) piled up 11 rebounds and a game-high six assists.

By the time the game ended, every active Yellow Jacket scored at least four points and grabbed at least one rebound. All but one Waynesburg player dished out at least three assists.

With the regular season in the rearview mirror, the Yellow Jackets now turn their attention to the playoffs. As the number-eight seed, Waynesburg will host Thiel on Saturday, March 13.
