Women's soccer wraps up season against Franciscan

Yellow Jackets fall 3-1 to Barons

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 24) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team hosted Franciscan Saturday afternoon needing just a win over the Barons to grab the fourth and final berth to the Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament. Although the Yellow Jackets held the Barons scoreless through the first half, Franciscan scored just 17 seconds into the second period  and added two more late tallies to edge Waynesburg 3-0.

Neither team generated many opportunities in the first 45 minutes, as Franciscan (4-5-2, 4-3-2) held a 4-2 shot advantage over Waynesburg (3-6, 3-6) during that timeframe.

Right at the beginning of the second half, the Barons were able to take advantage of a turnover and quickly countered with the first goal of the contest. Over approximately the next 20 minutes of action, the Yellow Jackets managed to keep the pressure on with three shots, but eventually Franciscan cashed in its second goal in the 72nd minute.

Just over three minutes later, the Barons scored their third and final goal in the 76th minute. Waynesburg had a few offensive opportunities in the final 14 minutes but could not find the back of the net.

Sophomore midfielder Emily Redman (LaPlata, Md. / LaPlata) led the Yellow Jackets with four shots. Senior midfielder Jessica Silbaugh (South Riding, Va. / Freedom) added two shots, including one on goal.

In net, sophomore Faith Falick (Bridgeville, Pa. / South Fayette) played the first 80:20 of the game, making five saves. Sophomore Autumn Blair (Penn Hills, Pa. / Penn Hills) finished the final 9:40, making a save on the lone shot she faced.
