WASHINGTON, Pa. (April 25) – The Waynesburg University men's tennis team wrapped up its 2020-21 season on Sunday with a rescheduled match at Washington & Jefferson. The Yellow Jackets battled the Presidents in a thriller, but came up just short in a 5-4 loss.
Sunday's doubles matches were all hotly contested affairs. Waynesburg (0-7, 0-6) took two of the three flights and nearly completed the sweep. After W&J (1-5, 1-5) pulled out an 8-6 win at first doubles, Junior
Conor Cassidy (Huntingtown, Md. / Huntingtown) teamed up with freshman
Alex Young (Beaver, Pa. / Beaver) to put together an 8-5 victory at the number-two flight. Junior
Keaton Moorhead (Apollo, Pa. / Kiski Area) and freshman
Adam Huckstein (Saxonburg, Pa. / Knoch) added an 8-6 triumph at the number-three spot to give the Jackets a 2-1 edge heading into singles competition.
Cassidy completed a 2-0 day by rolling to a 6-0, 6-1 win a number-three singles. Young defeated his opponent at number-four singles 7-5, 6-3.
