NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (July 16) - The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) announced its 2020-21 PAC Scholar-Athletes of the Year Friday morning.
With overwhelming support from conference's presidents and athletic administrators, the PAC launched its Scholar-Athlete of the Year Banquet in 2014 as another way to recognize the league's student-athletes for their athletic achievements, excellence in the classroom and outstanding efforts in and around their campus and home communities.
Each of the PAC's 10 full-time member institutions – Bethany College, Chatham University, Franciscan University, Geneva College, Grove City College, Saint Vincent College, Thiel College, Washington & Jefferson College, Waynesburg University and Westminster College, along with football affiliates Carnegie Mellon University and Case Western Reserve University – continue to be represented by some of their most distinguished and decorated student-athletes.
Waynesburg was represented by recent graduates
Jill Moyer (Cressona, Pa. / Blue Mountain) of the women's soccer team and
Brandon Durbin (Cresson, Pa. / Bishop Carroll) of the baseball team.
Moyer was a starter for the Yellow Jackets in all 59 of her team's matches over four seasons in Orange and Black. Over that same period, she tallied six goals, including four in a breakout 2018 sophomore campaign. Along with being an everyday contributor on the pitch, Jill shined in the classroom as a three-year member of the PAC's Academic Honor Roll. She was a member of the University's Dean's List for each of her eight semesters, graduated summa cum laude and was a member of the prestigious Sigma Theta Tau international honorary for nursing. When not balancing the rigors of soccer and academics, Jill still found time to serve her community in a multitude of ways. She completed a mission trip to Costa Rica and twice participated in service days to maintain the University's community trail. She also took part in the Waynesburg Turkey Trot 5K and twice joined her teammates in hosting a Night of Nets game that provides mosquito nets for those in countries that struggle with malaria. Jill's plans include working at UPMC Presbyterian as a medical intensive care unit (MICU) nurse.
Durbin saw starting time in all four of his seasons with the Waynesburg baseball team. After earning starts in 18 of the 36 games in which he appeared over his first three years with the program, Brandon exploded for a fine senior campaign. He led the team in virtually every major offensive category, hitting .357 with three home runs, four doubles, 41 total hits, 21 RBIs and 12 runs scored. He slugged .470 with a .408 on-base percentage over 32 games, 31 of which were starts. Brandon was a standout in the classroom as well as on the diamond. He was a three-year member of the PAC's Academic Honor Roll and an eight-semester member of the University's Dean's List. Brandon has also been active in several community outreach activities in and around Waynesburg. He has volunteered with Waynesburg Little League and was an active member of Waynesburg's Criminal Justice Club. Brandon's plans include returning to Waynesburg in the fall to pursue a master's degree in criminal investigation.
