WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 1) – The Waynesburg University volleyball team opened up the 2021 season on Wednesday night with a non-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match against visiting La Roche. The Yellow Jackets got the year off to a great start by rolling to a 3-0 win over the Redhawks in front of a raucous crowd at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
 
Waynesburg (1-0) opened the night with a 25-22 victory in set one. Set two went even better for the host squad, as it downed the Redhawks (0-1) 25-12. The Jackets survived a late rally and completing the sweep 25-23.
 
The win was the first in a season opener for Waynesburg since 2018, and its first 3-0 sweep of a curtain lifter since 2013.
  
The Jackets will look to keep their winning ways going into this weekend's two-day run at the Saint Vincent Bearcat Challenge. Waynesburg opens Friday's doubleheader with a 2 p.m. showdown against Allegheny. The day continues at 4 p.m. with a match against Pitt Greensburg.
