WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 25) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team hosted the University of Rochester on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets drew the first point of the contest, but Rochester bounced back in a big way to score a 7-2 win.
In the 14th minute of the contest, senior Hayley Frizzell (Finleyville, Pa. / Ringold) tabbed the first score of the day for Waynesburg (4-3) on an assist by junior
Sarah Rentler (Mount Lebanon, Pa. / Mount Lebanon). That was the first goal allowed on the road by Rochester (4-2-1).
Unfortunately for the host squad, the visiting Yellowjackets responded to Frizzell's tally with goals in the 19
th, 27
th, 37
th and 38
th minutes to build a 4-1 advantage. To its credit, Waynesburg was able to answer the challenge with a score in the 43
rd minute thanks to senior
Lea Holtz (Johnston, Pa. / Bishop McCort). Rochester took its 4-2 lead into the halftime break.
The visiting Yellowjackets stamped out any hopes of a Waynesburg comeback with a trio of second-half scores.
Junior goalkeeper
Autumn Blair (Penn Hills, Pa. / Penn Hills) played the first half in net and made eight saves. Junior
Kennedy Schuck (Marietta, Ohio / Marietta) played the final 45 minutes and logged six saves.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 29, when they travel to Franciscan to open up PAC play. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
