NEW CONCORD, Ohio (Sept. 25) – The Waynesburg University women's tennis team traveled to Muskingum on Saturday for a non-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match. The Yellow Jackets got off to a great start by sweeping the three doubles matches, but the Muskies responded by taking five-of-six singles flights en route to the 5-4 win.
Junior
Madison Ramsey (Shanksville, Pa. / Shanksville-Stony Creek and senior
Kyleigh Schmidt (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) got things rolling with an 8-5 win at first doubles. Juniors
Amy Liu (Beaver, Pa. / Beaver) and
Marina Hastings (Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg) combined to pull out an 8-6 win at the number-two spot, while seniors
Emily Schafer (Meyersdale, Pa. / Meyersdale) and
Ashley Smith (New Brighton, Pa. / New Brighton) completed the sweep with an 8-4 triumph at third doubles.
Unfortunately, the Jackets (0-5) were unable to carry their momentum into singles play. However, Ramsey was able to complete a 2-0 day by scoring a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the number-two spot.
Waynesburg is scheduled to be back in action on Monday, when it hosts Westminster for a PAC matchup. Start time is set for 4:30 p.m.
