STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (Jan. 29) – On Wednesday, Jan. 26, the Waynesburg University women's basketball team picked up arguably its biggest win of the last two seasons when it edged perennial Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) powerhouse Saint Vincent 60-59. Saturday, the Yellow Jackets were able to carry the momentum from that victory with them to Franciscan.
Waynesburg (3-14, 3-8) never trailed after the first two minutes of play and rolled to a 68-48 triumph.
After the Barons (0-14, 0-8) jumped out to a 5-4 edge, the Jackets tallied the next six points to take a 10-5 lead. The two squads evenly played out the remainder of the quarter, with Waynesburg holding a 15-11 edge going to the second period.
The Yellow Jackets took control of the contest over the next 10 minutes by outscoring Franciscan 22-9 over that time frame. When the two squads broke for their respective locker rooms, the Orange and Black had built up a 37-20 lead.
Waynesburg continued to expand upon its advantage in the third and after 30 minutes of competition, it led 56-31. Three minutes into the fourth quarter, the Jacket advantage ballooned to 66-35, at which point head coach
Sam Jones began to dip into his bench and give his reserves some valuable varsity minutes.
