Football wraps up 2022 campaign

Yellow Jackets host W&J for senior day

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Nov. 12) – The Waynesburg University football team wrapped up the 2022 season by hosting Washington & Jefferson on Saturday for senior day. Unfortunately, there wasn't much to celebrate after the pregame ceremony, as the visiting Presidents came out on top of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Backyard Brawl 56-0.

The Waynesburg (4-6, 3-5) offense featured four ball carriers who tallied at least 50 yards on the ground. Sophomore Hunter Cameron (Armagh, Pa. / United) recorded a team-high 65 yards on eight carries. Senior Justin Flack (Derry, Pa. / Derry) produced 56 yards on a squad-best 15 carries. Freshmen Dagyn Williams (Leslie, Ark. / Marshall) and Zayne Cawley (Huntingtown, Md. / Huntingtown) gave the Yellow Jackets something to look forward to in the future with 55 and 53 yards, respectively, on the ground.

The Yellow Jackets piled up 232 yards rushing for the day.

Speaking of youthful production, Waynesburg's top five tacklers on the day were all freshmen or sophomores. Sophomore Brennan Boron (St. Mary's, W.Va. / St. Mary's) tallied a team-high eight total tackles, one of which was for loss. Freshmen John Stewart (Lancaster, Pa. / JP McCaskey) and Emanuel Meyers (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Brashear) both logged seven total tackles each. Sophomore James Davis (Kersey, Pa. / Saint Mary's) and freshman Austin Derr (Mifflintown, Pa. / Juniata) posted five total tackles each, while Derr added a sack to his day.

Though the 2022 season came to a rough end, the Jackets made noticeable improvements from previous years. Their four total victories match their combined win totals over the past three campaigns.
