GREENVILLE, Pa. (Nov. 22) – The Waynesburg University men's basketball team traveled to Thiel on Tuesday night for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game against the Tomcats. The host squad used a big second half to pick up a 75-47 win over the visiting Yellow Jackets.
Thiel (2-4, 1-2) jumped out to an 11-2 lead and never relinquished the advantage for the remainder of the evening. Waynesburg (1-3, 1-2) trailed 36-20 with just under two minutes remaining in the first half, but used a 6-0 run to cut its deficit down to 10 at halftime. A three pointer by junior

The Jackets made it eight-straight points thanks to a field goal by graduate student
Matt Popeck (Washington, Pa. / Washington) one minute into the second half. Waynesburg still trailed by eight (50-42) with 14:48 left to play, but a game-deciding 14-0 run over the next 7:49 expanded Thiel's advantage to 64-42 with just under seven minutes showing on the game clock. Thiel closed the night by scoring 11 of the contest's final 16 points.
Popeck led the Jacket offense with a team-high 16 points. Junior
Jake Scheidt (Saxonburg, Pa. / Knoch) chipped in nine points, while Knotts added eight.
Waynesburg is off until Saturday, Nov. 26, when it heads to Westminster for another PAC contest. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
