Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's basketball opens 2022-23 at Case Western Reserve

Yellow Jackets fall to Spartans

CLEVELAND, Ohio (Nov. 8) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team tipped off the 2022-23 season with a road trip to Case Western Reserve on Tuesday night. The Yellow Jackets kept things close through the first 10 minutes, but the Spartans pulled away over the final three quarters of a 94-48 contest.

Waynesburg (0-1) never led in the contest, but a layup from senior point guard Anika Dansby (Massillon, Ohio / Washington) tied the score 2-2. Case Western Reserve (1-0) responded with an 11-0 run that made the score 13-2. The Jackets cut their deficit down to seven (22-15) by the time the final whistle blew in the first quarter.

Unfortunately, Case put plenty of distance between itself and the visitors by taking the second quarter 23-9 and heading into halftime with a 45-24 advantage.

Junior guard Avery Robinson (Ravenna, Ohio / Ravenna) knocked down a trio of three pointers to power a team-high 11-point performance. Freshman guard Aubrey Burns (Kittaning, Pa. / Armstrong) put together an efficient eight-point performance on two-of-four shooting, all from three-point range, and a two-for-two effort from the foul line.

Another freshman, Liv Ammons (Crossroads, W.Va. / Clay-Battelle) tied for the team lead with six rebounds to go along with seven points. Freshman Clara-Paige Miller (Waynesburg, Pa. / Waynesburg Central) and junior Marley Wolf (Ellwood City, Pa. / Riverside) chipped in six points each on the evening.

The Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 16, when they open Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play at Chatham. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
