WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Dec. 30) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team hosted Westminster for its final game of the 2022 calendar year. Though the Yellow Jackets put forth a spirited effort, they fell 68-54 to the Titans in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest.
After a scoreless first 1:55 of the contest, senior guard
Anika Dansby (Massilon, Ohio / Washington) gave Waynesburg (1-10, 1-5) a 2-0 lead. Westminster (8-3, 4-2) responded by scoring 11 of the next 12 points and taking an 11-3 advantage with just under three minutes left in the first quarter. The Jackets closed the gap to 17-11 as the period came to a close.
The host team stayed within striking distance of tying things up as the first half wrapped up. When the two squads broke for their respective locker rooms, Westminster held a 35-26 advantage.
Waynesburg trailed by 13 (49-36) with 2:50 remaining in the third quarter, but back-to-back three pointers by junior
Avery Robinson (Ravenna, Ohio / Ravenna) and Dansby cut the deficit to just seven points. Unfortunately, that's as close as the Jackets came to completing the comeback.
Freshman forward
Emma Seto (Allison, Pa. / Brownsville) led Waynesburg by tallying team highs in both points (12) and rebounds (eight) over a squad-best 32 minutes played. Robinson added nine points and freshman
Tori Wesolowski (Canonsburg, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) chipped in eight. Wesolowski also swatted away a game-high three blocks.
The Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, Jan. 3, when they travel to Grove City for another PAC showdown. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
