Jacket women face W&J in PAC Quarters

2021-22 season comes to an end in Washington

WASHINGTON, Pa. (Feb. 22) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team traveled to Washington & Jefferson on Wednesday night for the quarterfinal round of the 2022 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) tournament. The eight-seeded Yellow Jackets stuck right with the top-seeded Presidents through the first quarter, but the host squad lived up to their seed as they took a 77-45 win to advance to the PAC semifinals.

Waynesburg (6-20) never led in the contest, but showed its mettle after falling behind 14-4 in the first quarter. The Yellow Jackets outscored W&J (21-4) 9-2 over the final 4:20 of play. Junior Leighton Croft (Morgantown, W.Va. / Trinity Christian) tallied five points in the run, while junior guard Anika Dansby (Massilon, Ohio / Washington) and senior center Brooke Fuller (Allison Park, Pa. / Hampton) chipped in two points each.

Unfortunately, that strong end to the opening period was the highlight of Waynesburg's night, as the Presidents outscored the Jackets 24-10 in the second quarter and 29-8 in the third to put the game out of reach. Waynesburg closed the night on a bit of a positive as it scored the first 13 points of the fourth quarter.

As she has been all of her senior season, Fuller was dominant and put together a fine farewell performance on the court. She posted her PAC-leading 10th double-double of the year on 18 and 14 rebounds, both of which were game highs. Her four blocks were also tops in the contest.

Dansby added eight points and seven boards, while sophomore guard Avery Robinson (Ravenna, Ohio / Ravenna) contributed seven points.
