WAYNESBURG, Pa. (March 25) – The Waynesburg University baseball team hosted Franciscan on Friday afternoon for a nine-inning Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest. The cold, cloudy, rainy weather reflected the sort of day the Yellow Jackets had, as they fell 12-2 to the Barons.
Franciscan (9-3, 1-0) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning and doubled that advantage in the top of the third. A run in the fourth, another in the seventh and four more in the eighth, allowed the visitors to move ahead 12-0 heading into the bottom of the ninth.
Waynesburg (4-10, 0-1) broke up the shutout during its final three outs of the day by posting the game's final two runs.
Freshman
Bryce Bedilion (Clarksville, Pa. / Jefferson-Morgan) was the biggest bright spot of the day for the home team. He collected two hits in four at-bats for a third-straight game.
Sophomore
Justin Clevenger (McDonald, Pa. / South Fayette) got the start on the mound and suffered the loss after giving up six runs, five of which were earned, on seven hits and two walks.
The same two teams are scheduled to face off on Monday, March 28, in Steubenville, Ohio. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
