WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (March 4) – The Waynesburg University baseball team returned to the diamond on Friday for a morning showdown with Moravian. The Yellow Jackets kept things close through the first seven innings of the contest, but three late runs from the Greyhounds closed out a 6-1 win.
Moravian (6-4) struck first for two runs in the top of the second and a third in the top of the fifth. Trailing 3-0, Waynesburg (1-4) got on the board in the bottom of the seventh. Sophomore designated hitter
Lane Ours (Moorefield, W.Va. / Moorefield) got his team on the board when he doubled and then came around to score on an error committed by the Greyhounds during the at-bat of senior third baseman
Ty Kildow (Bethesda, Ohio / Union Local).
Leading 3-1, Moravian sealed up the victory with a run in the eighth and two more in the ninth.
Though he took the loss on the mound, freshman
Alec Engelmore (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shaler) put together a solid 6.1-inning start. He allowed three runs, only one of which was earned, on seven hits and two walks. Engelmore posted three strikeouts on the day.
The Jackets are scheduled to wrap up their stay in Florida on Saturday, March 5, when they face Wartburg. First pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m.
