WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 10) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team defeated Mount Aloysius 3-0 on Saturday in a non-conference tilt at John F. Wiley Stadium.
The Yellow Jackets struck first less than two minutes into the game as junior
Kate James (Silver Spring, Md. / St. John's College H.S.), an honorable mention all-PAC selection last year, netted her first goal of the young 2022 season. James later added an assist to finish with a game-high three points.
Just minutes later, Waynesburg continued its strong offensive attack as freshman
Reagan Mittendorf (Bluffton, Ohio / Bluffton) scored her first collegiate goal on a beautiful pass from James to put the home team up 2-0.
The Jackets defense, led by senior
Courtney Grove (Frederick, Md. / Frederick) along with juniors
Grace Ingram (Valencia, Pa. / Mars) and
Kylie Talbert (Boonsboro, Md. / Boonsboro) stymied the Mounties offense, allowing only two shots on goal in the game.
Waynesburg put the icing on the cake in the second half when freshman
Chloe Zook (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) notched her second collegiate goal to put the home team up 3-0. Sophomore
Brooklyn Loveland (New Cumberland, W. Va. / Oak Glen) picked up the assist on the goal.
Senior
Autumn Blair (Penn Hills, Pa. / Penn Hills), freshman
Mya Riggle (Ford City, Pa. / Armstrong) and senior
Kennedy Schuck (Marietta, Ohio / Marietta) combined for the Jackets' first shutout of the season. Blair and Schuck each had one save.
The Yellow Jackets will take the field again on Tuesday when Pitt Greensburg travels to Wiley Stadium for a non-conference battle. First kick is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
