EBENSBURG, Pa. (Sept. 10) – The Waynesburg University women's tennis team traveled to Mount Aloysius on Saturday for a non-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match against the Mounties. Though the Yellow Jackets fell 6-3, the contest featured their first flight victories of the fall.
First-year junior
Marley Wolf (Ellwood City, Pa. / Riverside) led the charge for the Jackets with a 2-0 effort at the Ebensburg Tennis Center. Playing in just her second collegiate match, Wolf started her day by teaming with another team rookie, senior
Zoie Smith (Berlin, Pa. / Berlin Brothersvalley), for an impressive 8-1 win at third doubles. Wolf added her first singles triumph of the year by downing her opponent at the number-five spot (6-4, 6-2).
Senior
Hayley Sweeney (Johnstown, Pa. / Richland) recorded Waynesburg's other victory on the day. The veteran leader of the team triumphed in straight sets (6-4, 6-1) at first singles.
The Jackets are back in action on Thursday, Sept. 15, when they open PAC play against Thiel. Start time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
