WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 16) – The Waynesburg University women's tennis team hosted La Roche on Friday for a non-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match. The Yellow Jackets picked up their first win of the season in impressive fashion by downing the Redhawks 9-0.

Marina Hastings (Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg) and
Hayley Sweeney (Johnstown, Pa. / Richland) got things rolling for Waynesburg (1-3) with an 8-4 win at first doubles. Freshman
Audrey Dennis (Sisterville, W.Va. / Tyler Consolidated) and senior
Amy Liu (Beaver, Pa. / Beaver) teamed up to add an 8-1 triumph at the number-two doubles spot, before senior
Zoie Smith (Berlin, Pa. / Berlin Brothersvalley) and junior
Marley Wolf (Ellwood City, Pa. / Riverside) picked up a forfeit at the third spot.
Sweeney improved to 2-0 on the day by bouncing back from a 6-0 loss in the opening set of her match at first singles, with wins of 6-0, 10-8 to close out her second victory of the day. Hastings, Liu and Wolf scored straight-set victories in their respective singles competitions, while Dennis and sophomore
Sarah Im (South Korea, Xavier) picked up forfeits to complete the Yellow Jacket victory.
Friday's action also resulted in the first-ever victory for Waynesburg first-year interim coach L Randy Pettit, D.C.
Waynesburg returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 22, when it travels to Grove City for a PAC match with the Wolverines. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
