Jacket women host Chatham

Yellow Jackets fall to Cougars in PAC showdown

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Jan. 11) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team hosted Chatham on Wednesday night for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup. The Yellow Jackets built a 16-11 lead after the first quarter, but the host squad was unable to stay ahead of the visiting Cougars, who took a six-point halftime advantage on their way to a 63-51 win.

Freshman front court players Tori Wesolowski (Canonsburg, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) and Emma Seto (Allison, Pa. / Brownsville) combined to give Waynesburg (2-13, 2-8) a 6-2 lead after 4:39 of play. After Chatham (9-5, 6-4) bounced back to grab a 9-8 edge, the Jackets rebounded to close the opening quarter on an 8-2 run.

Freshman Clara-Paige Miller (Waynesburg, Pa. / Waynesburg Central), junior Avery Robinson (Ravenna, Ohio / Ravenna) and Wesolowski scored for the home team during the surge. By the time the first 10 minutes of action came to an end, the Jackets held their five-point advantage.

Momentum swung into the Cougars' favor early in the second quarter, as they used a 10-2 run to build a three-point lead at 21-18. Chatham never trailed from that point forward and led 30-24 at the halftime break. The visitors jumped ahead by as many as 16 in the third, but the Jackets were able to pull to within six points early in the fourth thanks to back-to-back layups by Miller.

The game was ultimately decided by a 14-0 Chatham run in the final 10 minutes that put it ahead 59-39 with 4:39 remaining showing on the scoreboard.

Miller performed well in her first collegiate start by setting team highs in points (13) and steals (4), while also pulling down eight rebounds. Junior Marley Wolf (Ellwood City, Pa. / Riverside) came off the bench to score 10 points, nine of which came on a three-for-four performance from three-point range.

Though Seto scored just four points on the night, she made a much bigger impact with a game-high 18 rebounds (10 offensive) and a contest-best six assists.

Though it didn't lead to a win, Waynesburg held a massive 60-35 advantage in rebounding.

The Jackets are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 14, when Allegheny comes to the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse for another conference showdown. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
