WASHINGTON, Pa. (Jan. 12) – The Waynesburg University wrestling team opened Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action with a road trip to Washington & Jefferson on Thursday. Six forfeits decided the match, but there were highlights for the Yellow Jackets, who fell 45-12.
The Presidents' (1-3, 1-0) led 18-0 on three forfeits before the first bout of the night, which came at 149 pounds. Sophomore
Seth Evans (Sharon, Pa. / Sharon) put the Jackets on the board with a pin in 4:49 over Nicholas Reeping.
Three more forfeits clinched the match for the home team, as its lead grew to 36-6. Undefeated Waynesburg (0-6, 0-1) standout
Colby Morris (Waynesburg, Pa. / Waynesburg Central) logged the most impressive victory of the night as he bumped up to 184 pounds, despite having an opponent available at 174. He moved up to face sophomore Brayden Roscosky, who is one of, if not the top wrestler in the President lineup. Despite the size disadvantage, Morris not only defeated Roscosky, but did so by pin early in the third period.
Waynesburg suffered a loss by decision at 197 pounds and by pin at heavyweight to bring about the final score.
Of the four contested bouts, the Jackets outscored W&J 12-9.
Waynesburg is back in action tomorrow when it hosts New Jersey City and McDaniel in a home tri-match. Wrestling gets started at 2 p.m.
