WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 14) – The Waynesburg University volleyball team hosted Washington & Jefferson on Saturday for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match. The Yellow Jackets picked up a win in set one, but the Presidents bounced back to sweep the final three and secure a 3-1 victory.
Waynesburg (8-11, 1-3) downed W&J (10-10, 3-1) 27-25 and were looking for a second-straight conference victory. Unfortunately, the Presidents pulled out a 25-23 triumph in set two to tie the match, before rolling to 25-15 victories in sets three and four.
Sophomore
Paige Mortimore (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Brentwood) led Waynesburg with 12 kills. Freshman
Kendall Ellsworth (Carmichaels, Pa. / Carmichaels) helped out the offense with 20 assists, while sophomore
Riley Ruffley (Bedford, Pa. / Bedford) chipped in 14 assists.
Mortimore completed a double-double with 15 digs, while junior
Jordan Stein (Manor, Pa. / Norwin) logged a team-best 17 digs. Stein tied with classmate
Emma Hyatt (Carmichaels, Pa. / Carmichaels) for the game lead with four aces each.
Waynesburg is back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 18, when it travels to Franciscan for another PAC matchup. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
