CLEVELAND, Ohio (Oct. 21) – The Waynesburg University football team traveled to face Case Western Reserve on Saturday for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup. The Spartan defense lived up to its reputation as one of the best in the PAC as it stifled the Yellow Jacket offense in a 35-0 Case victory.
CWRU (6-1, 6-1) scored the eventual game-winning points with a touchdown 10:36 into the game. The Waynesburg (1-6, 1-6) defense did all it could in the first half to keep the deficit to seven points, but with just 14 seconds left to play in the second quarter, the home team doubled its advantage to 14-0, which was also the score at the break.
Case put the game well out of reach with 21 points in the third quarter.
Waynesburg was led offensively by sophomore wide receiver
Isaac Trout (Ruffs Dale, Pa. / Southmoreland), who tallied a game-high six catches for 52 yards. Junior
Dakota Romantino (Charleroi, Pa. / Charleroi) chipped in five grabs for 42 yards.
Senior
Jaquaivis Valle-Smith (Orlando, Fla. / Winter Park) tied for the game lead with 10 total tackles. Sophomore
Jemuel Cypress (Seat Pleasant, Md. / Charles Herbert Flowers) added eight stops, while sophomore
Jaheim Williams (Erie, Pa. / Cathedral Prep) and junior
Brennan Boron (St. Mary's, W.Va. / St. Mary's) logged six stops each.
The Jackets are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 28, when they host Geneva for senior day. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
