DANVILLE, Va. (Dec. 9) – The Waynesburg University wrestling team traveled south of the Mason-Dixon Line on Saturday for a busy day on the mats at the Averett Cougar Duals. The Yellow Jackets went 0-5 on the day, but a pair of individual efforts were definite bright spots for the Orange and Black.

Senior Colby Morris (Waynesburg, Pa. / Waynesburg Central) went a perfect 3-0 at 174 pounds with all three bouts ending in the first or second period. Morris logged two technical falls, including a first-period 17-2 triumph over Zhane Ruiz of Ferrum. His other five-point victory was a 15-0 shutout of Elijah Wellings-Osha of Fairmont State that lasted 4:06. The undefeated veteran got his quickest victory by way of a fall in 58 seconds over Sebastian Gabarette of Emory & Henry.

Freshman Jessie Orbin (Houston, Pa. / Chartiers-Houston) posted a 4-1 record on the day at 184 pounds. His briefest contested bout was a pin in 1:06 over Fairmont State's Chigozie Ijeoma. On the other end of the spectrum, he needed overtime to gut out a 9-6 decision over Joseph Toner of Ferrum. Orbin added a technical fall to his efforts when he downed Andon Marquis of Bluefield State 15-0 in 3:55. The freshman standout added a forfeit against Patrick Henry Community College.

Waynesburg (0-9) started its day with a 48-8 loss to Ferrum (3-2), before falling 47-11 to Fairmont State (6-8). The Jackets' next contest resulted in a 47-12 defeat at the hands of Emory and Henry (1-8). The Orange and Black came painfully close to its first dual win of the season, but fell 30-29 to Bluefield State in a match that featured eight total forfeits. Waynesburg added a 42-18 setback to Patrick Henry College.

The Yellow Jackets return to the mats with another big day of dual matches on Saturday, Dec. 16, when they travel to Tiffin, Ohio, to compete in the Kalahari Duals. The first of four contests for the Jackets is scheduled to get underway at 9 a.m.
