Jackets face busy day on the mats at Kalahari Duals

Waynesburg goes 0-3 in Ohio; Morris goes 3-0 with three first-period pins

SANDUSKY, Ohio (Dec. 16) – Fresh off finals week, the Waynesburg University wrestling team traveled to Saturday's Kalahari Duals, which were hosted Heidelberg University. The Yellow Jackets went 0-3 in a trio of contests.
 
Waynesburg (0-12) opened the day with a 31-22 loss to Mount St. Joseph (3-2) and followed with a 48-6 setback against Augustana (6-5). The Yellow Jackets' day ended with a 42-18 defeat at the hands of Alma (3-5).
 
Senior Colby Morris (Waynesburg, Pa. / Waynesburg Central) kept his undefeated season going with a perfect 3-0 effort at 174 pounds. He logged one of the fastest pins of the day when he stuck Alma's Skyler Cowgill in 34 seconds. He posted his second fall in less than a minute when he defeated Augustana's Colby Lape in 56 seconds. His Saturday concluded with another first-period pin, which lasted just 66 seconds.
 
Freshman Jessie Orbin (Houston, Pa. / Chartiers-Houston) logged a 2-1 showing at 184 pounds. Like Morris, Orbin picked multiple first-period pins when he defeated Blaise Armstead II of Alma in 2:45 and Mount St. Joseph's Noah Johnson in 1:31. He came one point shy of going 3-0 on the day when he dropped a heart-breaking 4-3 decision against Augustana.
 
Junior Seth Evans (Sharon, Pa. / Sharon) added a 2-1 day of his own in Ohio. Competing at 157 pounds, Evans earned a 10-1 major decision against Hayden Newell of Mount St. Joseph. He added a pin in 4:10 over Alma's Owen Atienza.
 
Freshmen Gavin Novak (Carnegie, Pa. / Chartiers Valley) and Jarvis Thomas (Rex, Ga. / Mount Zion) logged victories in dual match competition, while Thomas and freshman Jacob Wilson (Wills Point, Texas / Mount Zion) added wins in extra bouts.
 
The Jackets will squeeze in one more date on the mats in 2023 when they head to the Wilkes Open on Friday, Dec. 22. Wrestling is scheduled to get going at 9:30 a.m.
