WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Dec. 19) – The Waynesburg University men's basketball team returned to competition for the first time since Dec. 9, when it hosted Hood on Tuesday for a non-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest. The visiting Blazers never trailed on the day and rolled to a 95-58 win.
Hood (7-2) opened the game on a 9-2 run and built upon it to move ahead by 16 points (30-14) after 11:57 of action. Waynesburg (4-6) responded to the challenge with its most productive stretch of the afternoon by posting a 10-0 run over 2:41 of play. Junior
Jordan McLoyd (Johnson City, Tenn. / Science Hill), sophomore
Scott Bilovus (Imperial, Pa. / West Allegheny) and senior
Jansen Knotts (Ridgeley, W.Va. / Frankfort) all scored during the surge.
After Hood's advantage dwindled to 30-24 with 5:22 left to play in the first half, the Blazers responded by outscoring the Jackets 14-3 over the remainder of the opening period. By the time the two squads broke for their respective locker rooms, the visitors were ahead 44-27.
Unfortunately, things didn't get any easier for Waynesburg in the second half, as Hood outscored the Orange and Black 51-31 to close out the win.
McLoyd paced the Jacket offensive efforts with a team-high 14 points. Knotts added 10 points and a squad-best five rebounds on the day. He also paced Waynesburg with five assists. Senior
Antone Baker (Maple Heights, Ohio / Maple Heights) made a noticeable defensive impact in the paint with a game-high five blocks.
The Jackets get right back to work tomorrow when they host Pitt Greensburg for another non-PAC matchup. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
