GROVE CITY, Pa. (Dec. 30) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team traveled to Grove City on Saturday for its final game of the 2023 calendar year. The Yellow Jackets fell 78-51 to the Wolverines.
The home team (6-6, 5-2) scored the first 10 points of the game before ending the first quarter with a 25-10 lead. Waynesburg (1-10, 0-7) played the second and third quarters evenly at 29-29. Unfortunately, Grove City put the game well out of reach by outscoring the Jackets 24-10 in the fourth period.
The Yellow Jackets were led by freshman
Kayla Howard (McDonald, Pa. / West Allegheny), who paced the visitors with a team-high nine points. She also tied senior
Marley Wolf (Ellwood City, Pa. / Riverside) for the squad lead with five rebounds.
Freshman guards
Mia Henkins (Morgantown, W.Va. / Morgantown) and
Kalista Friday (Woodsfield, Ohio / Monroe Central) tallied eight points each, while the latter added four assists. Speaking of assists, graduate student
Anika Dansby (Massilon, Ohio / Washington) handed out a squad-best five for the Orange and Black.
Waynesburg returns to the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse on Wednesday, Jan. 3, when it hosts Franciscan. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
