AUBURNDALE, Fla. (March 11) – The Waynesburg University baseball team wrapped up its stay at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational on Saturday with a nine-inning game against Gwynedd Mercy. The Yellow Jackets fell into a big early hole and were unable to climb out, as they dropped the contest 10-2.
The Griffins (5-4) led 10-0 heading into the bottom of the eighth, when Waynesburg (3-5) was able to break up the shutout. Sophomore
Dalton Mount (Sykesville, Md. / Westminster) picked up an RBI on a groundout before junior
Cory Cox (Pomeroy, Ohio / Meigs) sprinted across home plate thanks to a wild pitch.
Freshman
Gavin Pratt (Carmichaels, Pa. / Carmichaels) got the start and suffered the loss after giving up five runs over 2.2 innings of work. He was the first of six Yellow Jackets to toe the rubber in the contest.
The Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, March 15, when they host Penn State Altoona for a home non-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
