WASHINGTON, Pa. (Sept. 19) – The Waynesburg University volleyball team headed up north on Interstate 79 to face fellow Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) member Washington & Jefferson in a non-conference showdown. The Yellow Jackets came back south after falling 3-0 to the Presidents.
W&J (5-6) took the match by the set scores of 25-15, 27-25 and 25-15.
Juniors
Madisen Dayton (Ridgeley, W.Va. / Calvary Christian) and
Emma Hyatt (Carmichaels, Pa. / Carmichaels) led the Waynesburg (5-5) offense by tying for the team lead with eight kills each. Sophomore
Paige Mortimore (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Brentwood) added six kills on the night.
Sophomore
Riley Ruffley (Bedford, Pa. / Bedford) helped out the attack by putting up a match-best 18 assists. Senior
Trysten Smith (Senecaville, Ohio / Shenandoah) chipped in 14 helpers.
Junior
Jordan Stein (Manor, Pa. / Norwin) paced Waynesburg's defensive efforts with a match-high 27 digs. Mortimore just missed out on double digits with nine digs. Speaking of defense, freshmen
Carissa Krall (Johnstown, Pa. / Westmont Hilltop) and
Kristina Zadrozny (McDonald, Pa. / West Allegheny) led the charge at the net with three blocks each.
The Jackets return to their home court at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse on Thursday to face another league opponent, Franciscan, for a non-PAC match. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
