Box Score STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (Sept. 20) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team opened Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play on Wednesday night with a road game against the returning conference runners-up from Franciscan. The Yellow Jackets had to withstand a barrage from the host Barons, but a second-half goal proved to be enough for the Orange and Black, as it bested the host team 1-0.
The two teams battled through a scoreless first half, before Waynesburg (3-3, 1-0) posted the eventual game winner in the latter part of the second period. Senior
Kate James (Silver Spring, Md. / St. Johns College H.S.) perfectly executed a corner kick into the box, giving fellow senior
Madey Hill (Hagerstown, Md. / North Hagerstown) a chance to put a head on the ball and bury it in the back of the net.
To Franciscan's (2-4, 0-1) credit, the Barons applied plenty of pressure on the Waynesburg defense and freshman goalkeeper
Alexus Greenlief (Chester, W.Va. / Oak Glen) as the game drew to its close. However, the Yellow Jackets withstood the attack to seal up the win.
Wednesday's win snapped Waynesburg's four-game losing streak to Franciscan.
The Yellow Jackets return home on Saturday night to face Chatham in another PAC matchup. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
