WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 22) – The Waynesburg University women's tennis team completed an exhausting two days of competition with a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matches on Friday. The Yellow Jackets opened their day with a 9-0 loss to Allegheny and closed it with a 6-3 setback at Thiel.
Waynesburg (1-5, 0-4) picked up all three of its victories against the Tomcats (1-7, 1-4) in singles play. Freshman
Julia Luzar (Washington, Pa. / Trinity) certainly earned her second victory in her last three matches, but had to battle for it at the number-three slot. After dropping the opening set 6-4, she rebounded with a 6-4 win of her own in set two, before closing out the victory with a 10-4 triumph in set three.
Sophomore
Felicia Duffy (Douglassville, Pa. / Daniel Boone) notched her first collegiate win at the fourth spot. After winning a tiebreaker in set one 7-3, she took down her opponent 6-3 in set two.
Sophomore
Aubrey Burns (Kittaning, Pa. / Armstrong) improved to 3-1 in singles competition by rolling to a 6-2, 6-3 triumph at the number six flight.
Friday's late match was much more closely contested than might be suggested by the final score. Thiel won the first and third doubles contests by 8-6 final scores. Those two results ultimately gave the contest to the Tomcats.
Waynesburg is scheduled to be back in action on Monday, Sept. 25, when it hosts Saint Vincent for a PAC contest. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
