WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 23) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team welcomed Chatham to John F. Wiley Stadium for a homecoming weekend matchup with the Cougars. The Yellow Jackets erased an early deficit to take down the visitors 2-1.
The win ended Waynesburg's (4-3, 2-0) seven-game winless streak against Chatham (1-5-2, 0-2).
The visitors needed just 3:21 to take the early 1-0 lead. Waynesburg didn't waste much time in answering the challenge thanks to freshman
Kaitlyn Prickett (Pendleton, Ind. / Pendleton Heights), who scored her first collegiate goal early in the sixth minute.
The two teams continued to battle until the halftime break, with the score still tied at 1-1. However, senior
Kate James (Silver Spring, Md. / St. John's College H.S.) tallied what wound up being the game winner in the 54
th minute.
After the score by James, freshman
Alexus Greenlief (Chester, W.Va. / Oak Glen) kept Chatham out of the net for the final 36 minutes. Greenlief tallied three saves over 90 minutes of work.
The Yellow Jackets dominated the statistics as they outshot Chatham 27-7, held a 16-4 advantage in shots on goal and doubled the amount of corner kicks (6-3).
Waynesburg will look for a third-straight win on Wednesday, when Saint Vincent comes to town for another PAC contest. Stat time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
