LATROBE, Pa. (Jan. 11) – The Waynesburg University wrestling team opened up Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) competition Thursday night with a trip to Saint Vincent. A pair of forfeits to open the night put the Yellow Jackets in a hole they were unable to climb out of, as the Bearcats secured a 34-18 win.
Waynesburg (0-13, 0-1) didn't weight in a wrestler at either 125 or 133 pounds, giving the Bearcats (2-6, 1-0) the early 12-0 lead. That advantage grew to 18-0 after a Saint Vincent pin at 141, before freshman
Cole Homet (Waynesburg, Pa. / Waynesburg Central) improved to 5-0 since transferring to Waynesburg with an 18-3 technical fall (6:30) at 149 pounds.
A major decision at 157 and a pin at 165 stretched the home team's lead to 28-5 heading into 174 pounds. Senior
Colby Morris (Waynesburg, Pa. / Waynesburg Central) stopped the bleeding with a 12-1 major decision to improve to 27-1 on the season.
Morris's victory kicked off three-weight win streak for the visitors, with freshman
Jessie Orbin (Houston, Pa. / Chartiers-Houston) picking up the fastest fall of the night. Orbin stuck his opponent in just 46 seconds.
Junior
Ayden Bishoff (Kingwood, W.Va. / Preston) kept things rolling by jumping out to sizeable early lead and holding on for a 10-7 decision triumph at 197 pounds.
The contest ended with SVC picking up a win by injury default at heavyweight.
Waynesburg is next in action on Saturday, when it travels to New Jersey City for a non-PAC match. Start time is scheduled for 12 p.m.
