WASHINGTON, Pa. (November 9) – The Waynesburg University men's wrestling team competed at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational on Saturday. The Jackets had three top-six finishers, including the invitational champion at 184 pounds,
Jessie Orbin (Houston, Pa. / Chartiers-Houston).
Waynesburg finished 10th of the 13 teams at the event.
Orbin claimed the meet championship at 184 with a 4-0 day. He notched a tech fall and a pin to reach the weight class semifinals. He took an 8-4 win over Lycoming's Eli Crum and pinned Thiel's Joey King in the championship match.
Seth Evans (Sharon, Pa. / Sharon) posted a 3-1 day to finish third in the 157 pound bracket. He notched a pair of pins to advance to the 157 semifinals. He was dealt a 7-3 defeat before earning a 9-8 decision in the third place bout against Pitt-Bradford's Raymond Worsen.
Ayden Bishoff (Kingwood, W.Va. / Preston) recorded three wins and took sixth at 197 pounds. He opened the day with a technical fall before going down to the consolation bracket. He notched a pair of wins against W&J opponents before being edge 4-2 in the fifth place bout against Southern Virginia's Loyal Holm.
Ryland Parker (Summerville, S.C. / Ashley Ridge) went 3-2 in a crowded 125 pound bracket. He earned wins via major decision and tech fall before bowing out two rounds short of the fifth place match.
JT Hollyfield (Oakdale, Pa. / West Allegheny) and
Austin Fleming (Parkersburg, W. Va. / Parkersburg) each picked up one win via pinfall at 157 and 285 respectively.
Waynesburg returns to action next Sunday at the Waynesburg Duals when the Jackets take on Penn State Behrend, Shippensburg and Mount Union.
