WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Feb. 3) -- The Waynesburg University women's basketball team dropped a 72-54 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest with Allegheny college on Saturday afternoon at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
The Gators (12-9, 11-5) led 15-11 after the first quarter and held leads as high as 8 in the first 10 minutes. Back-to-back
Mia Henkins (Morgantown, W.Va. / Morgantown) 3-pointers turned a 23-18 Jackets (4-17, 3-13) deficit with 5:37 left until the half into a 24-23 Waynesburg lead, there first of the day, with 5 minutes showing on the clock.
Allegheny responded with a layup at the 3:48 mark to retake the lead at 26-24. Henkins connected on another 3-ball with 46 seconds left in the half to give Waynesburg a 27-26 advantage. The Gators made a jumper just before the horn sounded to take a 28-27 lead into the break.
Waynesburg was outscored 30-9 in the third quarter to trail 58-36 after 30 minutes of play. Excluding the third quarter, the Orange and Black outscored Allegheny 45-42.
Henkins posted a team-best 15 points on 5-of-10 from beyond the arc to go with a team-high four assists and six rebounds.
Kayla Howard added 8 points and eight rebounds along with a team-high-tying two blocks.
The Yellow Jackets return to the hardwood next Wednesday, February 7, for a home 5:30 p.m. PAC showdown with Grove City College.
