WAYNESBURG, Pa. (March 17) -- The Waynesburg University baseball team dropped both halves of a home non-conference doubleheader with Penn State Behrend Sunday afternoon at the Baseball & Softball Complex by scores of 12-4 and 7-2.
Game One
Both sides got off to quick starts as the Lions (7-3, 0-0 AMCC) got on the board in the top half of the first to take a 1-0 lead. The Yellow Jackets (8-3, 2-0 PAC) responded in the bottom half as
Seth Burgdolt (Taylorstwon, Pa. / McGuffey) brought in
Dalton Mount (Sykesville, Md. / Westminster) on a ground out to tie things at 1.
Behrend added 4 runs in the second to lead 5-1. The Jackets got 2 runs back in the bottom half as Mount and
Todd Burner (Parkersburg, W.Va. / Parkersburg South) each knocked RBI singles to make it 5-3. Mount and Burner each collected three hits in game one.
The visitors added 2 more in the third to pull ahead 7-3.
Lane Ours (Moorefield, W.Va. / Moorefield) clubbed a solo shot to left in the fourth to pull the home side within 3, but Behrend tacked on 5 more runs across the fifth and sixth innings to spell the 12-4 final.
Ours finished 2-for-3 with a pair of runs in his first home start of the season.
Game Two
Garrett Comer (St. Albans, W.Va. / St. Albans) toed the rubber in game two and worked a pair of scoreless frames to open the game. The Lions (8-3, 0-0 AMCC) tagged Comer for 4 runs in the third to go ahead 4-0.
The visitors added 2 more in the fifth with a home run and 1 more in the sixth to push their lead to 7-0. Behrend held the Yellow Jackets (8-6, 2-0 PAC) to just tow hits through six innings.
Waynesburg's lone runs came in the seventh as
Hunter Mamie (Eighty Four, Pa. / Ringgold) clubbed a 2-run homer, his first collegiate dinger, over the left field fence to make it 7-2.
The Yellow Jackets return to action next Saturday when travel to St. Vincent for a 1 p.m. PAC doubleheader.
