TRAFFORD, Pa. (March 18) -- Waynesburg University freshman utility man
Garrett Comer (St. Albans, W.Va. / St. Albans) was named the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Newcomer of the Week as he led the Jackets to a pair of wins over conference rival Geneva Wednesday afternoon.
In game one with the Golden Tornadoes, Comer delivered a
walk-off single to left, just past the shortstops diving, outstretched glove, to score
Seth Burgdolt (Taylorstown, Pa. / McGuffey) and give the Jackets a 2-1 win.
He went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI singles and two stolen bases in game two as the Jackets topped Geneva 5-1 to move to 8-4 on the year, their best start to a season since the 2012 campaign (9-3). Comer added a base knock in game one of Sunday's doubleheader with Penn State Behrend.
On the year, Comer leads the team in RBIs (eight) and is hitting .275 (11-for-40) with 4 runs scored.
The baseball team returns to action Saturday when they travel to St. Vincent for a 1 p.m. PAC doubleheader.
