Trinity Edge (Franklin, Pa. / Franklin) and senior baseball player
Todd Burner (Parkersburg, W,Va. / Parkersburg South) were named the latest Waynesburg Athletes of the Week (AOTW) for their respective performances on the diamond.
Edge dominated on the mound in her collegiate debut as she tossed a complete game two-hit masterpiece in the Jackets' season opener with Nebraska Wesleyan at The Spring Games. The freshman got in a groove and retired 10 straight batters from the 3rd through 6th inning.
She finished the game allowing just two hits, 1 unearned run, two walks and six strikeouts.Â
Burner hit .500 (6 for 12) as the Jackets started the year 3-0 for the first time since the 2018 season. In the season opener with La Roche, Burner went 2-for-3 in game one and 4-for-4 in game two.
He had a walk-off single in game two of the La Roche doubleheader to cap off his 4-for-4 performance and seal the Jackets' come-from-behind 4-3 win.
Burner and the baseball team return to action today when they take on Davis & Elkins at 2:15 p.m. in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The Yellow Jackets' softball team hits the diamond for a doubleheader tomorrow with Ursinus (11:15 a.m.) and Muskingum (1:30 p.m.) at The Spring Games in Kissimee, Fla.
