KISSIMEE, Fla. (March 5) -- The Waynesburg University softball team dropped a 3-1 matchup with Ursinus College Tuesday afternoon at The Spring Games.
Trinity Edge (Franklin, Pa. / Franklin) made her second collegiate start for the Yellow Jackets (1-1, 0-0 PAC) and went the distance, allowing 3 runs (1 earned) and five hits while striking out and walking two.
The Bears (1-5, 0-0 Centennial) notched a pair of first-inning runs, capitalizing off a Jackets error. They added a run in the fifth to push their lead to 3-0.
The Jackets' bats struggled to get going until the fifth inning when
Grace Higgins (Canonsburg, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) worked a solid at bat and doubled to right. She came home on an
Ella Brookman (Washington, Pa. / Chartiers-Houston) single to make it 3-1.
Waynesburg threatened in the sixth by loading the bases but were unable to bring any runs home. The Jackets brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh but the Bears shut the door on the Orange and Black's comeback hopes.
Brookman finished 2-for-4 with 1 RBI.
Sydney Waryanka (Greensburg, Pa. / Hempfield) also went 2-for-4.
