WASHINGTON, Pa. (April 14) – The Waynesburg University baseball team had its seven game winning streak halted by first-place Washington & Jefferson on Sunday.
In a meeting of the two top teams in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) standings, the Presidents captured a doubleheader sweep with a 14-1 victory in game one and a XX-XX final in game two. Due to the game being moved from Waynesburg to W&J, the Jackets served as the home team on the scoreboard in both games.
The Jackets fall to 17-12 on the season and 10-3 in the PAC. W&J remains unbeaten in the league at 10-0 and rise to 16-7 overall.
Game 1 – W&J 14, Waynesburg 1 (7 innings)
W&J built a 10-0 lead by scoring in each of the first five innings. A four-run seventh led to a run-rule victory for the Presidents.
W&J smacked three home runs in the first four innings and added a pair of run-scoring doubles.
Lane Ours (Moorefield, W.Va. / Moorefield) scored
Seth Burgdolt (Taylorstown, Pa. / McGuffey) with a ground rule double in the sixth for Waynesburg's lone run.
Dalton Lucey (Waynesburg, Pa. / West Greene) suffered his first setback in eight starts this season as he allowed eight runs (six earend) over 4.0 innings.
Zach Scibelli (Ravenna, Ohio / Ravenna) gave up six earned runs in three innings of relief.

Game 2 – W&J 17, Waynesburg 4 (7 innings)
The Presidents scored two runs in the first, four in the third, six in the fourth and five in the seventh in another shortened victory. Waynesburg used six pitchers in the ballgame but could not solve the W&J bats as the Presidents scored 16 earned runs on 17 hits.
The Presidents led 6-1 going into the bottom of the third. Ours belted a three-run homer to bring the margin back to 6-4. W&J answered with six runs in the next half inning to stretch its advantage to 12-4 and never looked back.
Mike Bell (Herminie, Pa. / Yough) ,
Garrett Comer (St. Albans, W.Va. / St. Albans) and
Marcos Mendez (Ponce, Puerto Rico / Westminster (Md.)) each had two hits in the contest. Ours drove in three with his long ball. Comer doubled, drove in a run and scored once.
Gavin Pratt (Carmichaels, Pa. / Carmichaels Area) got the start and was tagged with the loss after surrendering nine runs, eight earned, in three innings.
The Jackets travel to Thiel for a PAC doubleheader on Wednesday.
