PITTSBURGH, Pa. (April 5) – The Waynesburg University baseball team earned a 13-2 run-rule victory over Chatham on Friday evening in Pittsburgh.

The Jackets rise to 11-10 on the year and 4-1 in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play. Chatham falls to 7-11, 0-3 PAC. The game marked the start of a stretch of seven conference games in six days for the Jackets after numerous weather-related postponements. Waynesburg and the Cougars will conclude their season series on April 21 at the WVU's Kendrick Family Ballpark at 2:00 p.m.

Waynesburg used a four-run third inning to hand starting pitcher Dalton Lucey (Waynesburg, Pa. / West Greene) an early lead.

Dalton Mount (Sykesville, Md. / Westminster) walked to lead off the fourth and scored on a groundout. Todd Burner (Parkersburg, W.Va. / Parkersburg South) knocked a two-out RBI single and Alec Engelmore (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shaler) drove in two more runs with a base knock to give the Jackets a 4-0 edge.

Chatham scratch across an unearned run in the fourth but Waynesburg struck back with two runs of its own in the fifth. The Jackets used two walks and a single to load the bases. Seth Burgdolt (Taylorstown, Pa. / McGuffey) singled to shortstop to plate Mount and Engelmore walked with the bases loaded to score Burner.

The Jacket lead grew to 7-1 in the sixth. Gavin Pratt (Carmichaels, Pa. / Carmichaels Area) ripped a one-out triple and Burner provided another two-out RBI with a base hit. Waynesburg's lead swelled to 10-1 after the seventh with two unearned runs and an RBI single by Trent Giraffa (Hanover, Pa. / Delone Catholic).

Engelmore had an RBI triple in the eighth and scored on a single off the bat of Aidan Williams (Shaler, Pa. / Shaler). Williams scored on a groundout to grow the Jackets' lead to 13-1.

The Cougars tacked on another unearned run in the eighth but could not prevent a run-rule victory.
