WAYNESBURG, Pa. (July 25) –
Perry Cunningham, head baseball coach of Waynesburg University, has stepped down from his position after 17 years with the program. A national search for his replacement is underway.
"I want to thank Perry for his years of service to the university and to Waynesburg baseball," said Director of Athletics Tim Fusina. "He did a great job in providing stability and has improved the program vastly since taking over as head coach. We wish he and his family nothing but the best."
Cunningham served as the head coach of Waynesburg baseball for the last three seasons. Prior to that, he was the pitching coach and director of baseball strength and conditioning under longtime head coach Mike Humiston since 2008.
Cunningham managed the Jackets to a successful 2024 season as Waynesburg matched its single-season program record for wins (23) and tied for second in the conference standings with a 15-5 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) record. The Jackets returned to the PAC Tournament for the first time since 2019 and had five players collect all-conference honors, the most for the team since 2014.
As Waynesburg's pitching coach, Cunningham mentored 2024 MLB all-star Mason Miller ('20) and two-time PAC Pitcher of the Year Brian Resnik ('16). As a pitcher, Cunningham enjoyed a successful career in the Frontier League of Professional Baseball and was inducted into the Frontier League Hall of Fame in 2022.
