Box Score ALTOONA, Pa. (September 1) – The Waynesburg University women's tennis team opened its 2024 season with a 7-0 defeat at Penn State Altoona on Sunday.
The Lions move to 2-0 on the season while Waynesburg falls to 0-1. The Jackets won 20 games in singles play against PSA compared to nine in last season's meeting against the Lions.
Penn State Altoona took the doubles point with wins at all three flights.
Alli Bailey (Mount Pleasant, Pa. / Mount Pleasant) and
Aubrey Burns (Kittaning, Pa. / Armstrong) took games at third doubles.
All six of the Jackets singles players won at least one game in their matchup.
Julia Corey (Eighty Four, Pa. / Ringgold) played a competitive No. 3 singles match. She fell 7-6, 7-5 with a 7-3 tiebreaker determining the winner of the first set.
Karly Starcher (Williamston, W. Va. / St. Mary's) won three games at fourth singles in a 6-1, 6-2 defeat. Bailey won two games in the first set at No. 5 singles.
Julia Luzar (Washington, Pa. / Trinity),
Julia Umshares (Washington, Pa. / Trinity) and Burns each won a game in singles action at first, second and sixth singles, respectively.
Waynesburg travels to Carlow on Friday.
