Women’s Soccer defeats Carlow 4-1 at Highmark

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (September 17) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team scored a 4-1 victory over Carlow at Highmark Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The Jackets continue their strong start to the 2024 season as they move to 3-1-1 on the year. Carlow falls to 0-4-1.

Waverly Lorne (New Providence, N.J. / Governor Livingston) cashed in with the game's first goal from distance in the 10th minute after Carlow cleared the ball from its own penalty area. Lorne one-timed a high arcing shot from beyond 30-yards out and it flew over the outstretched arms of the Celtics keeper into the back of the net to give Waynesburg a 1-0 lead.

The Jackets added another tally just over two minutes later as Demaree Livingston (Willow Grove, Pa. / Upper Dublin) fired a left-angled shot on target that was parrying away before Hailey Gilchrest (Hanover, Va. / Hanover) pounced on the loose ball in the six-yard box and powered it home for Waynesburg's second goal.

The Jackets fired three more shots on goal in the half and carried a 2-0 edge into halftime.

Julz Mohrbacher (Freedom, Pa. / Freedom) notched her first goal of the season in the 51st minute as Waynesburg quickly went end-to-end and Livingston centered a pass to Mohrbacher in the center of the field just beyond the penalty area. After a touch, Mohrbacher stepped into a shot from beyond the 18-yard box and tucked it into the top-right corner of the goal to extend the Jacket lead to 3-0.

The hosts got on the scoreboard in the 73rd minute with a goal from over 40 yards from net that tucked underneath the crossbar to bring the margin to 3-1.

Waynesburg answered a minute later as Sutton Clark (Ashburn, Va. / Stone Bridge) was taken down in the 18-yard box to prompt an attempt from the penalty spot. Clark aimed a shot into the upper-left corner to collect her first goal of the campaign.

Waynesburg set season-highs in shots (30), shots on goal (16) and corner kicks (seven). Livingston finished with two assists.

Alexus Greenlief (Chester, W. Va. / Oak Glen), Emily Beck (Pittsburgh, Pa. / West Mifflin) and Alex Francus (Bethel Park, Pa. / Bethel Park) played in net for the Jackets.

Waynesburg hosts Mount Aloysius on Saturday evening at 8 p.m.
