WAYNESBURG, Pa. (January 22) – The Waynesburg University men's wrestling team closed the home portion of its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) dual meet schedule with a 32-24 defeat in the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse on Wednesday evening.
The Jackets honored their seniors,
Seth Evans (Sharon, Pa. / Sharon) and
Ayden Bishoff (Kingwood, W.Va. / Preston) prior to the match. Waynesburg falls to 3-12 on the year in dual action and 0-3 in conference. Thiel rises to 1-2, 1-1 PAC.
The match featured five forfeits and one injury default. Evans at 157 pounds and
AJ Tomaino (Bethel Park, Pa. / Bethel Park) at 174 pounds each received medical forfeits after their opponents were introduced.
Jarvis Thomas (Rex, Ga. / Mount Zion) received an injury default after a competitive start to the 165-pound bout.
Jessie Orbin (Houston, Pa. / Chartiers-Houston) notched a fall in 1:49 of Thiel's Logan Groover to move to 15-0 in dual matches this season.
JT Hollyfield (Oakdale, Pa. / West Allegheny) recorded a late reversal to lead 6-5 going into the final period but sustained an injury as the period concluded. He was defeated 12-6 in the final session.
Thiel clinched the match in the heavyweight bout as the Tomcats' Seth Phillips won by fall in 1:47.
Waynesburg heads to New York City on Saturday to take on Hunter and Johns Hopkins.
