NEW YORK, N.Y. (January 25) – The Waynesburg University men's wrestling team completed its 2024-25 dual match slate at Hunter College on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets were bested by Johns Hopkins 48-3 and by Hunter 36-23 in a tri meet.
Waynesburg finishes with a 3-15 dual record. The Jackets were limited to five weight classes at the meet.
The day was highlighted by
Jessie Orbin (Houston, Pa. / Chartiers-Houston) completing an undefeated dual campaign at 184 pounds at 18-0. Orbin opened the day with a 7-2 decision over John Hopkins' Samuel Gledhill in one of two bouts that the Blue Jays were defeated in at the event. Orbin clinched the undefeated campaign with a pins in 2:20 against Hunter's Alfredo Tapia.
Orbin follows in the footsteps of
Colby Morris, who did not lose in a dual match in each of the previous two seasons and former All-American and national champion Jake Evans, who went 15-0 in dual matches in 2018-19.
Waynesburg won four of the five contested bouts against Hunter.
AJ Tomaino (Bethel Park, Pa. / Bethel Park) won with a fall in 2:33 at 174 pounds and
Jaron Polk (Philadelphia, Pa. / Pennwood) notched his first collegiate pin at 285 pounds in 2:31.
Seth Evans (Sharon, Pa. / Sharon) recorded a 17-2 technical fall at 157 to finish with an 11-7 dual record.
The Jackets to Baldwin Wallace for the John Summa Invitational on Feb. 8.
