FAIRMONT, W.Va. (January 4) – The Waynesburg University men's wrestling team began its 2025 slate at the Fairmont State University Open on Saturday.
As a team, the Yellow Jackets had a select group of wrestlers compete and placed 10th of 11 squads from the ranks of NCAA Division II, Division III, NAIA and the USCAA.
Jessie Orbin (Houston, Pa. / Chartiers-Houston) highlighted the day with a fifth-place showing in the 184-pound bracket.
Orbin turned in a 4-1 day on his way to another tournament placement. He advanced in the championship bracket via a technical fall before being sent down to consolations by eventual third-place finisher Josh Seaton of The Apprentice School. Orbin won his next three matches, all against NCAA Division II competition. He notched a major decision, a first period fall and a 10-8 decision in the fifth place match to close out his day.
Seth Evans (Sharon, Pa. / Sharon) notched a pair of major decisions at 157 pounds, one in the winners bracket and another in the consolation. His day ended a round before the fifth-place match by major decision.
The Jackets take on Wheeling and Muskingum at Wheeling on Jan. 10.
