YORK, Pa. (Nov. 14) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team opened the 2025-26 season in a semifinal game at the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, which is being hosted by York (Pa.) College. The Yellow Jackets fell 84-44 to William Paterson.
Waynesburg (0-1) fell behind 19-3 over the first 5:31 of play and never recovered, eventually going into halftime facing a 47-16 deficit. The Yellow Jackets ended the evening on a high note by outscoring the Pioneers (1-0) 22-18 in the fourth quarter.
Senior
Clara-Paige Miller (Waynesburg, Pa. / Waynesburg Central) led all Jackets with a team-high 15 points, 10 of which came from 12 free throws. She also pulled down a game-best eight rebounds.
Fellow senior
Kalista Friday (Woodsfield, Ohio / Monroe Central) chipped in 11 points in the loss and dished out a team-high three assists.
The Jackets will look to rebound from the rocky start to the schedule in tomorrow's consolation game against Salisbury. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
