Yellow Jackets fall to Purple Raiders in Omni-Ink Waynesburg Invitational

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Nov. 21) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team opened the home portion of its 2025-26 schedule by facing Mount Union in day one of the Omni-Ink Waynesburg Invitational Tournament on Friday. The Yellow Jackets got off to a strong start, but the Purple Raiders weathered the early storm and picked up the 88-66 win.

Waynesburg (1-3) held a 16-11 advantage 6:23 into the first quarter. However, Mount Union (5-1) exploded for a 16-0 run to end the quarter and take a 27-16 advantage into quarter two. Senior Aubrey Burns (Kittaning, Pa. / Armstrong) fired in a three pointer to open the second period for the Jackets, but it didn't take long for Mount Union to bounce back and rebuild leads as large as 22 points, before taking a 53-33 advantage into the locker room.

The Raiders continued to pad their lead throughout the second half on their way to the win.

The Jackets were led by senior Kalista Friday (Woodsfield, Ohio / Monroe Central), who poured in a game-high 18 points on the evening. She added five rebounds, three assists and two steals over 24 minutes of work.

Senior Clara-Paige Miller (Waynesburg, Pa. / Waynesburg Central) added 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor. She knocked down a contest-best three treys on seven attempts. Junior Kara McFadden (Painesville, Ohio / Fairport Harding) scored 13 points off the bench.

The Yellow Jackets are back on the court tomorrow for day two of the Omni-Ink Waynesburg Invitational Tournament. They take on Penn State Behrend at 3 p.m. Mount Union will precede the Jackets and Lions by facing Saint Vincent at 1 p.m.
