WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Dec. 17) – The Waynesburg University men's basketball team ended an 11-day layoff with a home non-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game against Wittenberg on Wednesday. The Tigers never trailed against the Yellow Jackets and went home to Springfield, Ohio, with an 80-55 win.
Wittenberg (8-1) opened up the contest with a 13-4 run over the first 5:33 of play and rode it to a 35-25 halftime lead.
A pair of free throws to open the half pulled Waynesburg (3-7) to within eight points of tying the contest, but that was as close as the host squad came to pulling even with the Tigers. The Jackets had the deficit at 48-37 with 13:13 showing on the scoreboard, but a 17-11 run by the road squad over the next 6:07 of play put the game out of reach.
Though it came in a losing effort, senior Jaylen Goins (Morgantown, W.Va. / Morgantown) set the game high with 17 points. Junior
Jackson Rhodes (Christchurch, New Zealand / St. Andrews College) added 15 points on the afternoon.
Junior
Mikey Smith (Mastic, N.Y. / William Floyd) had a solid all-around effort with eight points and a team-high nine rebounds, four of which were of the offensive variety.
The Jackets play their final non-conference game of the season and their final contest of 2025 when they travel to Carlow on Saturday, Dec. 20. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
